the temptation to waterproof fabric for clothing with wax ,oil and plastic is understandable especially for extremes of rain which we are accustomed to in this part of the world
however the result is a build up water on the inside of the garment ..defeating the purpose ..very unhealthy, clammy and cold
we have managed to treat the linen with a dry proofing so the hydrostatic head is high enough to repel rain .. (even irish rain).. and low enough for breathability (very important comfort factor)
hence our presence at the shows throughout the UK Ireland and beyond all year round.. because we cater for both seasons ..warm rain and cold rain
a coat with rain repellant qualities repels lots of other things too like mud , ice cream, champagne !!! so a damp cloth or baby wipes are usually all that's needed
